Postdoctoral position in Gravitational Wave Cosmology
Apply before JANUARY 15, 2019
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Gravitational Wave Cosmology within the Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics a consortium of existing institutes for theoretical physics of the University of Amsterdam, Leiden University, and Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
The appointment will be based at the Instituut Lorentz, Leiden University, but the successful applicant will spend part of the time at the University of Amsterdam/GRAPPA, on a weekly basis. The position will be embedded in the research groups of Dr. Samaya Nissanke (UvA, GRAPPA) and Dr. Alessandra Silvestri (Leiden University). The appointment is for 2 years (with possible extensions upon available funding), offers a competitive salary with generous benefits, and will preferably start in Fall 2019.
The successful applicant is expected to work on gravitational wave cosmology, with a focus on synergies with large-scale structure surveys, especially EUCLID.
The cosmology group in Leiden includes Prof. Ana Achucarro (inflation) and Dr. Alexey Boyarsky (dark matter), and has close
ties with the research group of Prof. Koenraad Schalm (AdS/CFT), as well as steady collaborations with several scientists from Leiden Observatory (Prof. Henk Hoekstra, Prof. Koen Kujiken and Dr. Elena Maria Rossi).
The University of Amsterdam has a strong profile in the natural sciences, and has expanded upon that role with the founding of the GRAPPA center for astroparticle physics in 2012. The successful applicant will also work in close collaboration with the groups of Dr. Philipp Moesta (multimessenger astrophysics) and Prof. Daniel Baumann (cosmology). The applicant will also be part of Nikhef, the national institute for subatomic physics in the Netherlands, which is involved in gravitational wave instrumentation and data analysis.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in physics, astronomy, or any other related area, or to be scheduled to obtain one before the starting date of this appointment. We encourage applications from underepresented groups in STEM.
How to apply
Application material should include a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a research statement, and the names of three academic staff members who agreed to write reference letters upon request. The material should be uploaded in one pdf file before JANUARY 15, 2019 using the link below.
