Anomalies in the Space of Couplings and Dynamical Applications

Abstract:  We study QFTs as a function of their coupling constants. By making these parameters position dependent, we explain how the notion of an anomaly can be extended to this setup. We apply these ideas to constrain the long-distance behavior of familiar theories such as a particle on a circle, and 4d Yang-Mills theory.

Eigenstate Scrambling and Thermalization in 2d CFT at large-c

Abstract: Recent developments have allowed us to identify how bulk physics in AdS$_3$ emerges from a precise piece of 2d CFT correlation functions in the OPE expansion. I will overview some of these recent developments and describe how one can  characterize the thermal properties of CFT pure states dual to black-hole microstates. While similar in spirit to the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis, our results differ in the details. This allows us to build a consistent picture of how a large-c 2d CFT, with its infinite symmetry group, can reasonably thermalize.  I will also discuss how well these pure states scramble information.

About

This event is part of a regular series of meetings sponsored by Delta ITP with the objective of bringing together the theoretical physics communities in Amsterdam, Leiden, Utrecht and our sister nodes Groningen, Brussels (ULB and VUB) and Leuven. The topic of this meeting is holography and its applications to different physical systems. We encourage researchers from different areas in theoretical physics to participate!
