The physics of condensed matter is aimed at understanding the physical properties of a large variety of materials. Theoretical physicists develop new methods to describe materials with strong interactions between the constituent particles, with the aim to elucidate big open scientific questions, such as the mechanism underlying high temperature superconductivity. In her research, Thessa Fokkema presents a number of models that describe strongly interacting quantum particles that contain so-called supersymmetries. These supersymmetries allow for exact calculations and a simplified description in terms of a quantum field theory.
