Kati Cseres’s research expertise lies in European competition law, consumer law and constitutional law. She examines competition law in its broader constitutional and political‑economic context, with particular attention to the role of consumers both as market participants and as citizens.
As a professor, she will focus on how European competition law not only safeguards well‑functioning markets, but also contributes to upholding the rule of law in economic relations, curbing concentrations of economic power and ensuring access to the EU Single Market. By placing the consumer as citizen at the center, she will analyse how consumers experience the social and political consequences of economic power.
As Professor of International Criminal Justice, Marieke de Hoon will focus on the complexities of delivering justice for crimes committed in the context of conflict. “I look forward to advancing this important theme together with my PhD candidates and colleagues at the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice, exploring how the capacities of public prosecutors, the police and judges can be better aligned with the evolving investigative and prosecutorial landscape of international crimes and with the needs of victims and victim communities, so as to make the application of international criminal law more meaningful.”
Esther Huiskers‑Stoop has been appointed Professor of General Tax Law at the UvA. Her research focuses on promoting tax compliance. Within the ‘Fair Taxation in Society’ research programme, she will concentrate primarily on taxpayers’ legal protection, the concept of tax compliance, citizens’ capability to comply, and trust between the state and citizens. “Government action should be grounded not in power, but in authority.”
