Open Research Europe (ORE) is an open access publishing platform established by the European Commission. It aims to make research more accessible, transparent and inclusive, and was developed to promote Open Science. The platform accepts a wide range of research outputs from across scientific disciplines and uses a "Publish, Review, Curate" model.
Submissions undergo careful checks by editorial teams and are then published immediately as preprints. They are subsequently submitted to external experts for open peer review. When the final, revised version is published, the review reports are also made public. This model enables rapid dissemination of research results, transparency and constructive scholarly discussion. It also recognises the important contribution made by reviewers.
The platform was previously funded entirely by the European Commission and was limited to EU-funded researchers. Now, a consortium of national research funders and organisations, including NWO, shares responsibility for its funding and strategic direction. This is turning ORE into a sustainable publishing platform for the wider European research community.
With Open Research Europe, we are taking an important step towards a European alternative for publishing academic research. This aligns with the ambitions of our Open Science programme: making knowledge widely accessible and strengthening our control over our scholarly publishing infrastructure.Sven Dupré, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Open Research Europe
Thanks to the new partnership and NWO's participation, all researchers in the Netherlands can now publish open access on Open Research Europe free of charge. Researchers interested in publishing via Open Research Europe can find out more about the eligibility criteria at: https://ore.eu/eligibility.
