At the celebratory Architectenweb Awards 2026 ceremony, held on the evening of Wednesday, 4 November at Keilepand in Rotterdam, the design for the University of Amsterdam’s University Library won the 2026 School Building of the Year Award. Commissioned by the University of Amsterdam, MVSA Architects and Buro van Stigt designed the transformation of the former hospital building into a university library.

From the jury’s report

“The jury considers the transformation of the hospital building into a university library to have been carefully executed in every respect. The architecture firms MVSA Architects and Buro van Stigt demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship. The covered courtyard has become a special place, both spectacular and functional, according to the jury. The many study rooms have been designed down to the smallest detail.”
