Since 2024, the UvA has been working with BAM to repair the façades of REC B/C/D, where leaks have occurred since handover. Work is now on the east side of REC D — see the green area in the image. The contractor will take a number of measures to carry out the repairs here as safely as possible and with as little disturbance as possible.
To work on the façades, BAM will have to unscrew and refit the window frames. These are short operations that will be audible outdoors. Teaching will not be affected. Exam schedules are being taken into account and there is coordination between the UvA and the contractor.
BAM will set up a works site designated as a safety zone. This means part of the public area will be fenced off to prevent unsafe situations. The barrier concerns a small section under the bridge (see the images below), which means no one can pass through. On the other side of the fencing, the public area, such as the benches, can still be used. Any inconvenience to passers‑by will be during the contractor’s working hours: daily from 07:00 to 18:00 at the latest. Outside these hours, the fencing will be removed.
The contractor will install signs to inform people about the diversion. During the diversion, the other usual walking routes will remain open. The car park of REC E, REC L+G and the Health Centre will remain accessible, and accessibility for people with disabilities will not be compromised.
The UvA has informed BAM about Intreeweek in week 35 and agreed that the façade repairs will not affect those activities on campus. The works site will be removed and set up again several times on 24–26 August for the organisation of Intreeweek.
