IAS Director Han van der Maas is launching 'AI Anonymous', a new IAS initiative intended to facilitate open discussion about AI use in research and education. Open to both AI enthusiasts and sceptics alike, this peer support group will provide a space to tackle questions about the confusing new academic landscape AI has created.

“Hi, my name is ___, and I asked AI to write my paper.”

Generative AI can now build models, fit data, solve open mathematical problems and draft a submission-ready paper in an afternoon. Many of us are already using it for real intellectual work, and many of us are confused. Who is the author? What counts as a contribution? What should students learn now that the master’s thesis has lost its pedestal? And how do we keep control of the scientific process?

Task forces and policy committees are working on the rules, but in the middle of a transition we mostly have to improvise. AI Anonymous is a space to do that together: an informal, judgement-free gathering for researchers and teachers to share experiences, doubts, successes and bewilderment about working alongside AI.

No expertise required, no confession too small. Enthusiasts, sceptics and the thoroughly baffled are all welcome.

The first session will take place on the 11th of November and will be hosted by IAS Director Han van der Maas. Register to attend at the link below.
